"Believers Of What God Says!"

On August 13, 2001, Kevin Washington started his senior year in High School. He accepted the task of completing a Senior Project that would consist of an eight-page report and a physical project that would have to be a learning stretch for him. Having some experience on working with and directing choirs, he chose to do his project on The History of Gospel Music, and for his physical project, he would put together a choir and teach them a song.

On September 27, 2001, the first practice was held, with a group of twelve; Himself, three friends from school, his sister, three of her friends, two youth from his home church, and three of his cousins. We were named the Kevin P. Washington Gospel Choir.

The KPW Gospel Choir made their debut at New Covenant Holiness Church in Wilmington, North Carolina on November 21, 2001. God’s powerful anointing really overtook the choir at this engagement. After many hours of rehearsal, and hard work the choir sung for Kevin’s Senior Project on December 11, 2001 our song was “Who Side Are You Leaning On?” led by Brother now Minister Roscoe Lawton. The choir was so full of God’s anointing, people were listening at the door.

After the project, the Lord led Brother Kevin to keep the choir together. The choir was renamed The Voices of Inspiration also known as "The Voices." With a new mission, which is to bring youth and adults to Christ through song and to unite different people from different churches to bless God, the choir began to sing more around Wilmington and surrounding areas. We are now ready to expand our territory and sing in other cities.

On May 25, 2002, Kevin graduated high school and went to North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. Kevin returned to Wilmington after his freshman year to bring the choir back together. They inherited a new name, The Voices Of Inspiration Community Choir.

In 2005, two people in each section were chosen to be Section Leaders over the section in which they sing. The Section Leaders combined and The Voices of Inspiration Praise And Worship Team was born.

In 2007, in a section leader meeting one day Sister Bettie James bought up the idea of starting up a dance ministry that could also mime in order to enhance the ministry and reach out to those who could not hear the songs coming from the choir and the praise and worship team. A few months later after extensive meetings and rehearsals the Inspiring Mime and Dance Ministry of VOI was born.
